SGA Leadership for 2018-2019

Our 7th grade class gave their leadership contracts to Father Weber at the all school Mass on May 4th.  We look forward to their leadership service to our school and parish community.

Confirmation

Eighth graders in our parish were confirmed on April 19th by Bishop Robert Hermann. Some of our parishioners were able to meet and pray with students on April 16th. Students spent a retreat day on the 18th at the CSJ Motherhouse.

We are grateful to Mrs. Slama, to our priests, and to parents and sponsors who have shared their faith and have helped in the students’ preparation for this sacrament.

Service

Thanks to all who participated in the CRS Rice Bowl effort.  Our school raised over $550 to help this ministry for people in need.

The 6th grade class has led the school in becoming more mindful of Pope Francis’ encyclical Laudato Si!  They developed and presented power points both to the classrooms and to the PFA. This supported our 3rd trimester Catholic Social Teaching of “Care For God’s Creation.”  Our focus as a school community has been to reduce, reuse, and recycle especially in the areas of plastic bottles and bags.  The 6th graders coined BYOB- Bring your own bag and water bottle!

Mr. Recyclio even paid a visit to our lunch room. Thank you, 6th grade!

Our 7th graders continue their service at Southside Early Childhood Center.

May Celebrations

One of the strongest assets of St. Gabriel School is the community. Over the year, we have been blessed to come together, as a community, to recognize one another in success, support each other in times of sorrow, and to honor those in celebration. The month of May certainly provides us opportunities to come together, as a community, to celebrate!

Congratulations to our second graders who will be receiving their First Holy Communion this coming Sunday! Thank you, parents and teachers, for all the work you have given to make this day possible for the students. This will truly be an exciting day as we come together to witness the students receiving Jesus for the first time. Please keep the second graders and their families in your prayers.  May they always know God’s abiding love and grace!

After next Thursday’s All School Mass, our eighth and second grade classes will lead us in a May Crowning to honor Mary and to pray for peace in the world.  Come pray with us!

We will come together to hear wonderful music from our students in the Choral Concert on Tuesday, May 8th, and then our Band Concert on Wednesday, May 9th. The Kindergarten class will perform for us on May 15th.

We will sadly say farewell to our eighth grade students as they graduate

St. Gabriel. We will honor them as a school community at Mass on May 24th and our 56 eighth graders will then graduate on Tuesday, May 29th. May they know that they will always have a home here at St. Gabriel the Archangel.

Prayers as we End the School Year

O God of all beginnings and endings,

We praise and thank you for the gift of this school year.

It has been a time filled with grace and blessings,

with challenges and opportunities, joys, and sorrows.

The days have passed quickly, O Lord.

The weeks, the months, the seasons, the holidays, and holy days,

the exams, vacations, breaks, and assemblies,

all have come forth from your hand.

While we trust that your purposes have always been at

work each day,

sometimes it has seemed difficult to understand and appreciate

just what you have been up to in our school.

Give us the rest and refreshment we need this summer.

Let our effort of this past year bear fruit,

bring all of our plans to a joyful conclusion,

in addition, bless us, according to your will.

With the fulfillment of our summer hopes and dreams.

Watch over us in the weeks of rest ahead,

in addition, guide each day as you have done this past year.

Help us return to school with a new spirit and a new energy.

May we continue to grow

in age, wisdom, knowledge and grace

all the days of our lives.

Amen.

                           May Baptismal Birthdays

Each month at St. Gabriel School, we take time to celebrate student baptismal months. The students baptized during the month are honored at an All-School Mass and they have the opportunity to renew their baptismal vows.

You are invited to celebrate with us at the 8:00 a.m. Mass on Thursday, May 17, 2018. Due to limited space, we ask that each child bring only 2 guests.

Please meet your child in the vestibule of church and join in the entrance procession. You will sit together in the reserved pews in church on the side of the Baptismal font.

We hope you are able to join us for this remembrance of your child’s birth into the Catholic Church.
