A Note from the Principal
Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a happy, healthy break! We look forward to seeing all of our students back at school tomorrow! On behalf of all of the staff, I’d like to begin by sending a huge THANK YOU to all of you for your generous donations to the faculty and staff this Christmas season. We are very thankful and grateful for your generosity!!!
While our students are enjoying their last day of break, teachers are working hard back at school today. We spent our day continuing our professional development with Jane Pollock. Jane worked with us on lesson planning to teach students the thinking skills of analysis and classifying. As part of our preparation for our School Improvement Visit, we also worked in groups to draft action plans for our academic, institutional, and Catholic identity goals for the next five years. Finally, we reflected on our Social Teaching for the trimester, Option for People that are Poor and Vulnerable (less fortunate than we are at this time), and planned related activities and reflection time for our students.
Messenger of Christ Awards-
Congratulations to our December Messenger of Christ Awards winners! Students were nominated by their teachers and students for being like our patron saint and being messengers of the Good News wherever they go.
Spirit Wear Day-
On Friday, January 5th, we will have a St. Gabe’s Spirit Day. Per the faculty handbook, students may wear tops with their uniform bottoms

Catholic Schools Week Order Forms
As part of Catholic Schools Week (January 29-February 2), we have Student Appreciation Days. Lunch will be brought in on Monday, January 29 from Dairy Queen and LeGrand’s. Ice Cream will be brought in on Tuesday, January 30 from Dairy Queen. The order forms in this e-blast must be returned to school no later than Wednesday, January 17. Please send each child’s order in a separate envelope with their name, order and payment. Please DO NOT place all family members in the same envelope. Each student will need their own order form. Students in K-5 may order Dairy Queen lunch only. Students in 6-8 may order Dairy Queen or LeGrand’s or both if they choose.
PLEASE MARK “DQ/LEGRAND’S” ON THE ENVELOPE SO THESE DO NOT GET MIXED INTO THE REGULAR LUNCH ORDER FORMS.
Parish Nursery Sign Up
We are scheduling volunteers for the parish nursery from January through March. The commitment is minimal and allows the parents of young children to peacefully attend 9am Sunday Mass. If you use the nursery we ask that you be available to work at least once every six weeks. Our goal is to have 2-3 student volunteers to assist 1-2 parent volunteers each week. Parent volunteers: If your spouse works with you please include both of your names. Student volunteers: Please feel free to forward this link to your friends in 6th, 7th, 8th or high school. We can always use more help. Please take a minute to select a date as soon as possible. And thank you for your support of this free service. It provides a great benefit to many of our parish families. Thanks again!
Junior High Leadership Group
St. Gabriel will be starting a leadership group for students in grades 6-8.
The goal of the leadership group primarily is that the students will serve as leaders among the student body. They will serve as peer mentors, be a positive role model, intervene when they see situations of bullying or mean behaviors, mentor new students, assume leadership roles in various activities, etc. This program will allow students to gain leadership skills, show responsibility and become positive role models in their peer groups. This program is designed to empower students, as it encourages and supports students helping one another. Students will be expected to act in a respectful and responsible manner at all times, as they will be the students that other students will be looking to for help and advice. Leaders will also be expected to assist with activities throughout the year and to assume a leadership role in those activities. The leadership group will meet over lunch with some possible meeting times outside of school hours with advanced notice. Students will be expected to fill out an application so we can make sure they understand the mission of the group.
If your child is interested in joining, please have them contact me after the break to get an application.
Please contact me if you have any questions.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
