A Note from the Principal
We had an extremely FUN end of the day with our teachers from the homerooms (for each grade) that donated the most money during All for Books getting a pie in the face. We are very appreciative of the teachers who participated. They were wonderful sports for a good cause! The students also did a wonderful job collecting their spare change for a good cause. Together they raised more than $2,000. I don’t think our students will be forgetting this afternoon anytime soon!
Parent Teacher Conference Details & Sign-ups-
Parent/Teacher Conferences are tomorrow from 2:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. We will have classes in the morning and will dismiss for the day at 12:30 p.m. Gabriel Club will be available from 12:30-6pm. Conferences are a great time to meet to discuss your child’s academic progress with their teacher and to set goals for the rest of the trimester and year. As in years past, each teacher will have a conference table set up in the gym.
Kindergarten – 6th Grade Conferences
Parents of students in kindergarten through third grade are asked to SIGN UP for one 10-minute conference with your child’s homeroom teacher using the Sign-Up Genius links below.
Students in 4th-6th grades are asked to SIGN UP for one 10-minute conference with your child’s homeroom teacher or the teacher who teaches the subject(s) you are the most concerned about for your child. Please only sign up for one time slot so we have enough openings for all parents to have at least one conference. If time slots are full and you do not have an opportunity to talk to a specific teacher, you are welcome to communicate with them via email or to request a different time to meet with the teacher.
Conference time slots will be on a first come, first serve basis, so please sign up quickly. You are responsible for signing up for a time and we are asking you to arrive promptly for the time slot you choose so teachers can remain on schedule and conferences can run smoothly.
7th & 8th Grade Conferences
We will not have a sign-up for individual appointment times for conferences for students in seventh and eighth grade. Please come at a time that works for you. If you wish to have a lengthy conversation with teachers other than your child’s homeroom teacher, we ask you to make an appointment with that teacher. Of course, if you just need a couple of minutes, feel free to approach the departmental teachers during the designated conference times. It is important that 8th-grade parents see their child’s homeroom teacher since this is the year for high school decisions.
Co-Curricular and Student Services
The co-curricular teachers and support staff teachers will be in the gym as well to meet with parents. There will not be individual sign-ups to meet with them, but please feel free to stop by their tables and talk with them or to simply say hello. Robin High from Title I will be available in the teacher’s lounge on the lower level.

The Great Central U.S. Shake Out-
Next Thursday we will participate in The Great Central U.S. Shake Out. During this we will practice our earthquake safety procedures at school. The abbreviated version of this is to DROP, COVER and HOLD ON. If you’d like any resources to talk about or practice earthquake safety at home, please click the link here: https://www.shakeout.org/centralus/downloads/shakeout_individual_drill_manual.pdf. We will also be practicing our monthly fire drill and our reverse evacuation drill at this time. Our teachers will be reviewing the procedures for all of these safety drills before Thursday, so your students may be mentioning them at home next week.
Auction Donation Dress Down Day-
If you donated an item for the auction, the dress down passes will be sent home in the Wednesday envelopes next Wednesday, October 18th and the dress down day will be on Friday, October 20th.

Confirmation Sponsor Meeting
The Confirmation Sponsor Meeting has been rescheduled for Thursday, November 9th at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. We look forward to seeing the Confirmation students and their sponsors. Let’s keep the students and sponsors in our prayers. May they know the power of the Holy Spirit working in their lives!

PFA Parent Meeting October 26th
“How do you see school?”
How looking at the development of our children and ourselves through the right lens can cultivate resilient, growth-oriented mindsets in ourselves, our children, and our parish school community.
Tim Curdt has been an educator at St. Louis University High School for over twenty years. In addition to teaching English, he is the Freshman Class Moderator in charge of mentoring students through the transition to high school as well as the SLUH Summer School Principal and Executive Director of Upward Bound Academy.
He and his wife, Theresa, have been a part of the St. Gabriel parish for twenty years and have sent all four of their children to St. Gabriel School.
(So he knows most parents will really just show up for the dress down day and he TOTALLY gets it!)

Basketball registration is now open for grades 3-8. Registration will remain open until October 22, 2017. All children must be registered by this date or a $100 late fee will be applied to your account. No one will be placed on a roster until this fee is handled. If you paid the family fee, you will not need to pay anything for basketball.
We will be sending out information regarding restructuring at a later date.

Scholastic Book Fair’s Survey
Dear St. Gabriel Parents,
Scholastic Book Fairs has partnered with the Hanover Research Firm to administer the Family Engagement Survey to families attending a school with Principal Advisory Board or Customer Advisory Board representation. Mrs. Julie Dame is a member of the Customer Advisory Board.
The purpose of this survey is to gather insights to support an independent reading culture. Hanover Research will launch the survey and collect data through a web link in September 2017. The resulting data will be shared out to each participating school community in October/November 2017.

SCRIP News & Reminders
The SCRIP program is off to a good start this year! Purchases made online at ShopwithScrip.com using PrestoPay have made over $1,900 for the school since June 1st.

Each school year the rebates from the SCRIP program makes over $25,000.
- SCRIP will be sold after school this Thursday, Oct. 12 from 12:15-12:45
- We now carry $100 Amazon cards in inventory. IF you are using an older Back Pack order form, just write in if you would like the $100 card.
- Check out our local SCRIP card offerings.
Edibles & Essentils, Eddie’s Donuts (on Kingshighway at Murdoch), JJ Twigs South Hampton, Mimi Nails (in the Mackenzie Pointe Shopping Center.) and Quincy Street Bistro.
- SCRIP can be purchased after school in the school meeting room on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45pm – 3:15pm, at the rectory on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am-Noon and on the weekends after Mass – Saturday, 5pm and Sunday 9am and 11am. You can also use the Back Pack Order Form to purchase SCRIP Monday – Thursday.
- SCRIP cards offer a different rebate percentage depending on the retailer. For example, Dierbergs rebate is 5%; Shop-N-Save’s is 4%, Target and Walmart rebates are 2.5% and gasoline cards offer rebates of less than 2%. Purchasing cards with a higher rebate percentage makes more money for our school.
- You can use Lands’ End gift cards for your school uniform purchases. These cards can be purchased through our on-hand inventory or use ScripNow and you will have the gift card voucher to use immediately when purchasing uniforms online. Lands’ End offers a 16% rebate which is far better than most of the other cards in the program.
- Check out the Back Pack Order Form to see all the cards that we carry in-stock, the rebate percentage offered from each retailer and which cards can be reloaded. Go on line at ShopWithScrip.com to see all the available retailers!
- Kohl’s gift cards purchased through the SCRIP program can be used to pay a balance on a Kohl’s credit card account. So you can get all the benefits of the Kohl’s credit card and use the SCRIP program.
