A Note from the Principal
It is hard to believe it is the first week of October. October brings many wonderful events such as sixth-grade camp, parent-teacher conferences, Scholastic book fair, trivia nights, etc. Please take a few moments to read the e-blast each week so you do not miss any important information regarding these events.
Parent Teacher Conference Details & Sign-ups-
Parent/Teacher Conferences are Thursday, October 12th from 2:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. We will have classes in the morning and will dismiss for the day at 12:30 p.m. Gabriel Club will be available from 12:30-6pm that day. Conferences are a great time to meet to discuss your child’s academic progress with their teacher and to set goals for the rest of the trimester and year. As in years past, each teacher will have a conference table set up in the gym.
Kindergarten – 6th Grade Conferences
Parents of students in kindergarten through third grade are asked to SIGN UP for one 10-minute conference with your child’s homeroom teacher using the Sign-Up Genius links below.
Students in 4th-6th grades are asked to SIGN UP for one 10-minute conference with your child’s homeroom teacher or the teacher who teaches the subject(s) you are the most concerned about for your child. If time slots are full and you do not have an opportunity to talk to a specific teacher, you are welcome to communicate with them via email or to request a different time to meet with the teacher.
Conference time slots will be on a first come, first serve basis, so please sign up quickly. You are responsible for signing up for a time and we are asking you to arrive promptly for the time slot you choose so teachers can remain on schedule and conferences can run smoothly.
7th & 8th Grade Conferences
We will not have a sign-up for individual appointment times for conferences for students in seventh and eighth grade. Please come at a time that works for you. If you wish to have a lengthy conversation with teachers other than your child’s homeroom teacher, we ask you to make an appointment with that teacher. Of course, if you just need a couple of minutes, feel free to approach the departmental teachers during the designated conference times. It is important that 8th-grade parents see their child’s homeroom teacher since this is the year for high school decisions.
Co-Curricular and Student Services
The co-curricular teachers and support staff teachers will be in the gym as well to meet with parents. There will not be individual sign-ups to meet with them, but please feel free to stop by their tables and talk with them or to simply say hello.
We look forward seeing you on Thursday, October 12th!
There will be NO SCHOOL Friday, October 13th due to the conferences the day prior.

High School Shadow Policy-
As a reminder, eighth Graders will be allowed two shadow days in the first semester of school (August-November). One day is to be scheduled during a school day. The other is to be scheduled when St. Gabriel School is not in session, such as the day after conferences or teacher meeting days. The student needs to pick up a form in the office prior to the shadow day. This form must be completed by the visiting high school and returned to the homeroom teacher.
Seventh Graders are to shadow a high school second semester (March-May). This day is to be scheduled when St. Gabriel School is not in session, such as teacher meeting days.
Students will be marked absent for the day they shadow and will be expected to make up any missed worked.
Getting Messages to Students During the Day-
If you need to get a message to a student during the day, please email the teacher prior to 8am or contact the main office if it is after 8am and they will get the message to the child. Teachers often do not have time to check their email throughout the day and we would hate for any important information to not get to a student.
Have a great afternoon!

Scholastic Book Fair’s Survey
Dear St. Gabriel Parents,
Scholastic Book Fairs has partnered with the Hanover Research Firm to administer the Family Engagement Survey to families attending a school with Principal Advisory Board or Customer Advisory Board representation. Mrs. Julie Dame is a member of the Customer Advisory Board.
The purpose of this survey is to gather insights to support an independent reading culture. Hanover Research will launch the survey and collect data through a web link in September 2017. The resulting data will be shared out to each participating school community in October/November 2017.
If you have any questions, please contact Scholastic Book Fairs.

As a thank you, Scholastic Book Fairs will provide your school with $1,000 Scholastic Dollars, we just ask that you provide at least 50% participation from your families.
As a special, optional, fundraiser for our school, the PFA is offering a chicken lunch on Monday, October 16th, 2017. Please complete the bottom of this form and send it back in an envelope along with money to school by Monday, October 9th, 2017. If your child does not want to order Chick-fil-A, they need to bring lunch that day. There will be no lunch service that day.
We are sorry that this information did not make the flyer for Chick-fil-a in the folder last week. THE FOOD IS FRIED IN PEANUT OIL -Here is the information from Chick-fil-a regarding the peanut oil and cooking from their website. We make no other claims – this is from them.
“Our peanut oil is a high-temperature, heat-processed, fully refined peanut oil (refined, bleached and deodorized).
