A Note from the Principal
We cannot wait to see all of you next week! Below are details on important events taking place during the first week of school. Please review them carefully.
Solar Eclipse Updates and Volunteers-
Depending on what the viewing looks like that day, our viewing will take place on the school playground or at Francis Park. In order to take the students to Francis Park, we need you to complete a walking permission slip for each student. These will be available at our Open House on August 14th. If you are unable to attend Open House, we will send them home with the other beginning of the year paperwork on the first day of school. We have to have these returned by the morning of August 21st at the very latest for your child to be able to go to the park to view the Eclipse.
If you would not like your child(ren) to view the eclipse, they will need to remain home that day. During the eclipse, the building will be locked, the office will be closed, and all staff members will be viewing the eclipse with the students.
We received a grant that provided us with enough glasses for every student and teacher. All students must wear the glasses during the viewing.
We are in need of 26 parent volunteers to help us supervise students to, from our viewing area, and during the eclipse. Each volunteer will be paired with a homeroom. We will do our best to pair you with your child’s homeroom, but it is not guaranteed. We will have one pair of glasses for each volunteer, but we do not have any extra pairs for additional guests. Volunteers will need to arrive at 12:30pm and stay until 1:45pm. Please notify Mrs. Slattery if you are interested in volunteering that day. We appreciate your help!
We look forward to seeing everyone at Open House on Monday evening! Please come to school anytime between 4:30 – 6:30 pm to meet your teachers, drop off your supplies, and enjoy ice cream provided by the PFA. We will also have walking permission slips in each student’s homeroom that we need each parent to sign so students are able to walk to the park for the solar eclipse. If you ordered your supplies, you can pick them up in the café between 4:30 and 6:15 during Open House. Please also keep an eye out to “Lend a Hand” to our teachers (more information is listed below).
Parents of incoming kindergarteners should drop off their kindergartener in the gym between 6:00-6:25pm, drop supplies off in their homeroom, and head to the café. The parent presentation will begin at 6:30pm.

“Lend a Hand”
The PFA is asking parents to “Lend a Hand” to the St. Gabe’s Teachers. Every year, teachers spend over $250.00 of their own money to fund classroom needs. To offset these costs the PFA asked teachers to list items they need for their classroom. Parents are invited to purchase an item for a teacher. To do this, there will be colored, paper hands listing items needed for the classroom hanging on classroom doors at Open House and Back to School Night. If you would like, take a hand off the door, purchase the item, and send it to school with your child. The hands will be hanging on each teacher’s door. Archangel Activities Registration Is On Bidpal!
*Sunday, August 13th at approximately 10:30am you will be emailed the following link to register for classes: www.bidpal.net/archangel (this link is currently not active). The email will come from the Bidpal database. Be sure to register and update your Bidpal information before Sunday. Classes are on a first-come basis.
*You will register and pay for classes on Bidpal (think of each class like a Sign-up party that is what the format will look like). Payment is due at time of registration via credit card.
*Jill Farace, Annie Sharamitaro and Jane Bene will be in the School Meeting Room on August 13th at 10:30am-12:15pm. If you need assistance registering on your mobile device or you need to borrow a tablet, we will be there to help.
*Wait List – if a class is full, an email address is provided in each description on Bidpal. Email your child’s name and class title if you want to be added to the Wait List. Payment is not required until you are enrolled in the class.
*This is the first year that registration is online. Please be patient with us as we kick-off this new process.

St. Gabriel’s hot lunch program will be starting on August 21st so you will need to pack a lunch for your child on the 17th & 18th. There will be milk, water & juice available to purchase. The August and September lunch menus are now available on the school website. The August menu will be due on the first day of school (August 16th) and the September menu will be due on August 30th. Please be sure to read the helpful notes on the August menu and you can find more detailed information on the school website under “Lunch at St. Gabriel” quick link. If you have any questions, you can email firstname.lastname@example.org . Chris’ Pancake provides lunches but all ordering is handled at St. Gabriel.
8th Grade Core Committee
If you are the parent of an 8th grader and interested in serving on the 8th Grade Core Committee this year, please email Mrs. Slattery at email@example.com by August 25th. We will have a drawing to select the committee members on August 26th. Committee members are responsible for the planning of all 8th grade events this year including fundraising efforts, Mystery Day, Graduation, etc.
Attached is the summer Server schedule. Fr. Ryan and I appreciate your child’s commitment to serving this year. Just a friendly reminder that if your child cannot serve on his/her scheduled Mass this summer, please find a substitute. Have a great summer!

The St. Gabriel’s Chess Club is holding an organizational meeting on Tuesday, September 19th from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the School Cafeteria. If you are the parent of a current Chess Club member or have a child interested in participating in the 2017-2018 season, we highly recommend that you attend. We will discuss the upcoming season, practice schedule, fees, Chess Kids application and the 2017-2018 tournament schedule. The School meeting room will be available for current and future team members to meet and play chess during the parents meeting.
